Gymnastics grip
A gymnastics grip is used for any exercise that requires
an athlete to hold bars or rings. They consist of a leather strip that
goes up the palm with two holes for the third and forth fingers to go
through. The strip is connected to the wrist with a buckle or Velcro.
A very popular type of gymnastics grip used during competition is called
a “dowel grip.” These grips have a little wooden dowel wrapped
that’s placed between the leather and the fingers. Supposedly,
the dowel makes it easier for the athlete to grip and hold onto the
bar.
A gymnastics grip will not prevent blisters or skin tears from occurring;
however they will delay the onset of this kind of skin damage. Blisters
are a natural part of gymnastics and will not seriously an athlete’s
performance, no matter how painful they may be.
