Gymnastics apparel
Leotards are one-piece, tight-fitting garments that the
wearer enters through the neck-hole. The fabric covers the body but
not the legs, which remain uncovered to move freely. Since they allow
so much motion, leotards are the most popular kind of gymnastics apparel.
Gymnastics apparel must fit properly to avoid injury. The most obvious
way to do this is to try the leotard on. Do some common stretches; make
sure to lift your arms up and note any gaps in the material or slipping
shoulder straps. Avoid any leotards with material that pinches around
the legs.
Gymnastics apparel should be stretchy to accommodate all physical activity.
Many leotards are made from cotton and Lycra, which can be washed in
a machine, but newer garments made of new microfibers have become popular
due to their softness. These must be hand-washed, however.
